DeMolay is an international organization which promotes good citizenship, as well as developing leadership and character. Since it’s founding in 1919, DeMolay has helped shape the lives of more than one million young men including Walt Disney, Burl Ives, John Wayne, and Walter Cronkite.

Membership is open to young men from twelve to twenty-one years of age. These are important years during which permanent standards of character and ideals of citizenship are developed. The group a young man associates with during these years is one of the greatest influences in his adult life.

DeMolay is not a substitute for home, church, or school. It is a most effective program and organization for physical, mental, moral, and social development. Participation in chapter discussions, on committees, in civic, social, and athletic events, and many other activities, provides training of immediate use and of great value for the future.

As much as possible, the chapter members conduct the business of their chapter. An advisory council provides adult guidance and suggestions. Each chapter of the organization plans their own activities and events, which range from athletics to community service. The boys are also responsible for raising the funds for each activity as well as to pay for miscellaneous expenses. Through this, each boy can better learn the responsibilities and develop skills to use later on in life.

The Order of DeMolay focuses on teaching its members the principles of love for parents, religious tolerance, courtesy, comradeship, fidelity, cleanness, and patriotism. By following these principles, members will have a solid foundation on which to build their character and future life.
